Our mission is simple: to unite the millennia-old historical authenticity of Puglia with the comfort and innovation of modern life.

We firmly believe that each masseria is a treasure to preserve, a piece of history to live and share. History and Craftsmanship
Our masseria’s represent more than centuries of Salento history and reflect our commitment to keeping local traditions alive. Thanks to the skill of our artisans, who have inherited and perfected craftsmanship techniques passed down through generations, we are able to transform raw materials such as stone into valuable architectural structures.
This careful work on every detail contributes to creating unique spaces that combine beauty and practicality, paying homage to the rich culture of Salento. To ensure the continuity of this heritage, PETRA’s CEO, together with its partners, has founded an academy dedicated to educating the new generations of artisans, thus ensuring that the authenticity and excellence of our masserias endure over time.

Franco Ventolini
Founder & Design Director
Franco is a pioneer in converting historic buildings into exclusive hospitality facilities, having established the first diffused hotel in Salento in 1998. His expertise in historic constructions, combined with a strong inclination towards innovation, starting from the conservative restoration of farmhouses, masserie, and ancient Salentine houses, has led him to develop completely new luxury masserie. These not only offer modern comfort and luxury but are also designed with a keen eye on environmental sustainability. This has been made possible by his formidable ability to collaborate with inspiring personalities who have brought foreign investors to Salento.
Driven by the vision of merging traditional Salentine beauty with contemporary conveniences, Franco has significantly influenced the evolution of luxury tourism in Salento, creating facilities that enhance the local landscape and culture. These properties are almost entirely located in the fiefdom of Carpignano Salentino, in the heart of Grecìa Salentina, and near the municipality of Otranto, one of Italy’s most important seaside city.
Today, he is dedicated to transferring his experience of over 40 years to the Petra team and particularly to his son Antonio, the company’s CEO. His motto is: “Nothing must be lost.”
